Are you thinking about hiring a cleaner/housekeeper? From personal experience, I can say it's a decision that can completely change the way you feel about your home. Just like food somehow tastes better when someone else has cooked it, a clean home feels even more satisfying when you haven't had to scrub every corner yourself. Hiring help around the house isn't just for the super-wealthy anymore. That might have been the case years ago, but times have changed. In fact, compared to a decade ago, a million more people now employ someone to assist with household tasks. Yes, it's an added expense but it's not a sign of failure if you can't keep up with all the housework on top of a full-time job. Historically, managing a household was someone's full-time job! And while the physical and mental health benefits of a clean home are well documented, actually staying on top of everything can be exhausting and time consuming. Sometimes, getting a bit of help is the smartest and kindest choice you can make for yourself.

For many families today, both parents work full-time, and let's face it, the last thing they want to do with their precious free time is tackle household chores. With the rise of remote work, many people now run their businesses from home, and again, their time is often better spent focusing on their work or enjoying quality moments with family rather than scrubbing floors. There also comes a point in life when, even though our minds say "yes" our bodies just can't keep up. Cleaning can become physically demanding, especially as we age. I've also seen an increasing number of families reaching out to me on behalf of parents or grandparents who simply need a bit of extra help. And let's not forget, studies have shown that a significant percentage of older adults experience loneliness. Having a friendly, familiar face around for regular visits can make a world of difference. For neurodivergent individuals, cleaning can feel overwhelming and even exhausting. A cleaner can not only help with the physical tasks but also provide valuable support and structure, making a real impact on their wellbeing.

There's no 'one type' of person who hires a cleaner - people from all walks of life do it. If you're someone who could use a little help and values your free time, there's no reason not to explore what options are available. You might just find that hiring a cleaner is one of the best investments you can make for yourself, your family and your home. Here are five reasons why it might be worth considering.....

  • It will save you time and energy - Life is busy, and your time is precious. With so many of us juggling hectic schedules, finding quality time for family can feel like a challenge. Instead of spending your weekends vacuuming, scrubbing and tackling endless chores, a cleaner can help you reclaim your free time. Whether it's enjoying special moments with your loved ones, pursuing hobbies, knocking out your to-do list or simply resting, the time saved can make all the difference. Family time can already be tough to coordinate - especially in our hyper-connected world. Throw in housework like mopping, vacuuming and dusting, and it can feel like all you want to do is crash. But when it's time to unplug from devices, turn off the TV and create memories together, you're doing more than having fun. You're building confidence, character and stronger bonds with your children. Cleaners provide invaluable support, freeing up parents from time-consuming tasks so they can focus on what truly matters.

  • It can save you money in the long run - Hiring a cleaner should be seen as an investment, not an expense. Professional cleaners bring expertise, the right products and specialised tools to ensure a thorough, high-quality clean that leaves your home sparkling. Regular cleaning helps prevent the build-up of things like limescale, which can extend the lifespan of your fixtures and fittings. But the benefits go beyond just a clean home. By outsourcing cleaning tasks, you free up more of your time, allowing you to focus on what truly matters - whether that's personal projects, professional goals or simply spending quality time with loved ones. A clean environment has been shown to boost productivity and creativity, making it easier to concentrate and get things done.

Time is precious. Value it by using it for the things you want to do, not just the things you need to do.

  • Customisable cleaning plans - A professional cleaner will work with you to design a cleaning plan that fits your needs and lifestyle. Whether you're looking for regular weekly or bi-weekly cleans, or prefer a more occasional deep clean of a specific room, they'll tailor their services to suit your home and schedule.

  • A healthier home - Dust, allergens, germs and viruses can quickly accumulate in an unsanitary living space, impacting both your health and comfort. Regular professional cleaning helps eliminate these contaminants, ensuring that you're breathing cleaner, healthier air. Over time, dirt, dust, allergens, mould, pet dander and other harmful particles build up, often circulating through your HVAC system. Older homes may also pose risks like exposure to asbestos fibres, lead dust and other pathogens. A thorough, professional clean plays a crucial role in maintaining fresh, clean and healthy indoor air. Regular cleaning and proper waste disposal also help prevent pests and insects from taking up residence in your home. As professional cleaners, we understand that our role goes beyond just dusting and polishing - we're actively working to reduce and remove bacteria and germs that could be lurking around your home. It's not enough to simply dust and polish - high-touch areas like kitchens and bathrooms require a deeper, antibacterial clean to keep them truly safe and sanitary.

  • It can help to reduce stress - A clean and organised home can have a profound positive effect on your mental health and wellbeing and that of your family - even your pets! On the other hand, a cluttered, untidy space can trigger stress and anxiety, and when you don't have the time or energy to clean, it creates a frustrating cycle. Regular, professional cleaning breaks that cycle, giving you more time to relax, enjoy moments with loved ones, focus on work or dive into hobbies. It also helps to foster a sense of responsibility and good habits, making it easier to maintain your living space over time.

Not enjoying or feeling at peace in your own space isn't healthy. Feeling like you're failing at housework isn't healthy. Constantly arguing or becoming resentful with your partner or housemates over chores isn't healthy, either. Whether it's the wonderful feeling of coming home after a long day to relax in a spotless, fresh-smelling home, or gaining the extra free time to focus on important tasks or an enjoyable hobby instead of cleaning, the benefits of hiring a cleaner far outweigh any monetary cost. Many of my clients share that there's no better feeling than walking into a home that's gleaming, fresh and smells amazing. Instead of diving into a never-ending list of chores, you can put your feet up, kick back and truly enjoy your home. Please don't ever think that cleaners are just for the wealthy, lazy or indulgent. We're for everyone, and there's absolutely no shame in asking for help.

As a cleaner myself, I sometimes feel the pressure to have my own home look like a 'show home' because, after all, it's my job, right?! I'm the 'professional' who makes homes spotless and beautiful - and that's absolutely true! But let's be honest, life can get hectic. Juggling work, family, running a household, maintaining a social life and taking care of your mental and physical health is a lot to balance. That's why I am always non-judgmental and understanding of everyone's unique circumstances. A little mess and dirt? Totally normal! A home can't stay perfectly clean every minute of the day unless you have endless hours to clean (which let's face it, most people don't). We're all human, and mess is part of life.

If you simply want the luxury of someone else cleaning your home so you can kick back and relax after a long day, I'm here to help. Whenever any of my wonderful clients worry about their home not being 'perfect', I smile because this is what I do week in and week out. And I mean it when I say, there's nothing to worry about. Your home should always be your safe space, where you feel most comfortable - a judgment-free zone meant to be lived in!

If you are considering hiring a cleaner for your home, please get in contact for an informal and non-judgmental chat to discuss your requirements.
