The Benefits Of Hiring A Cleaner For Your Home

Updated: Aug 3

Are you thinking about hiring a cleaner/housekeeper? I know from experience that if you do, you will appreciate your home in a whole new way. Food tastes so much better when someone else has done the cooking and the same applies with cleaning. Hiring a cleaner is not just a luxury reserved for the uber-rich with lots of disposable money. This may have been true many years ago but times change. In fact a million more people employ someone to help around the house compared to a decade ago. It is an expense but you're not failing if you can't manage to keep up with the housework (that has historically been someone's full time job), whilst having a full time job. Although the physical and mental health benefits of a clean home are numerous and well documented, keeping on top of your housework can be challenging and time consuming.

Many families now have both parents out working full-time and let's face it, the last thing they want to do with their precious time off is domestic chores. There has been a huge rise in those who work their businesses from home and again, their time can be better spent with their business and families above housework. There also comes a time in life when our brain still says yes but our bodies might say no and cleaning can be very hard work. I also find that many relatives now contact me on behalf of parents and grandparents who just need a little extra hand. Studies have also shown a significant percentage of the elderly population suffer from loneliness. Having a familiar face to see regularly can make a big difference. Cleaning can also be overwhelming for neurodivergent people and cleaners can offer support.

There really is no one type of person who employs a cleaner so if you need a little help and love your free time, don't let anything stop you from seeing who is out there and what they offer. Here are five reasons why hiring a cleaner might be one of the best investments that you make for you, your family and your home...

  • It will save you time and energy - Life is busy and your time is valuable. Most people have very busy lives and finding time to spend with your family is harder than ever. Rather than spending the weekends vacuuming and scrubbing, a cleaner can help you to use your free time for what's important - spending quality moments with your loved ones, pursuing your passions, checking off your to-do list or just enjoying some well-deserved rest. It can be difficult to arrange enough family time, particularly when you have a list of chores to complete. In our super-connected world, it has become even more difficult to spend enough time together. When you add in the need to mop, vacuum, dust and scrub, all you want to do is rest. When it is time to put down the smartphones and tablets, turn off the TV and have a family adventure, you are doing more than having fun together - you are helping to build confidence and character in your children. Cleaners are here to help parents free up their time by taking over time-consuming home cleaning tasks.

  • It can save you money in the long run - Hiring a cleaner for your home should be considered an investment rather than an expense. Cleaners have the professional expertise, products and tools to achieve a thorough and high quality clean, leaving your space spotless. Regular cleaning and keeping on top of limescale build-up can help to prolong the lifespan of the fixtures and fittings in your home. It will also free up more of your time for you to be more productive in other areas of your life, whether personally, professionally or both. A clean environment can boost productivity and creativity, making it easier to concentrate and get things done. The time you have is very precious. Value that time and use it to do the things that you want to, rather than need to.

  • Customisable cleaning plans - A professional cleaner will work with you to create a cleaning plan that works for you and your home, whether you would like a regular weekly or bi-weekly house clean or a deeper clean of a single room on a less frequent basis.

  • A healthier home - Dust, allergens, germs and viruses can quickly and easily build up in a dirty, unsanitary living environment. Regular professional cleaning will help to eliminate them. It is obviously better to breathe healthy, clean air. Unfortunately the presence of dirt, dust, allergens, mould, pet dander and other unhealthy contaminants will build up over time, constantly circulated by your HVAC system. Older homes pose the risk of exposure to asbestos fibres and lead dust, along with other pathogens. A thorough, professional clean is an important factor in keeping your indoor air fresh, clean and healthy. Regular cleaning and proper waste disposal can also help prevent pests and insects from infesting your home. As professional cleaners, we have always understood that whilst we clean and dust primarily, we are also ensuring that we are reducing and removing bacteria/germs around your home.

It is not enough to just polish and dust as high frequency touch points, kitchens and bathrooms in particular, need a more thorough, antibacterial clean.

  • It can help to reduce stress - Having a clean and organised home can have a massive positive impact on not only your own mental health and wellbeing, but that of your family and even your pets too. A dirty and untidy home can cause feelings of stress and anxiety but a lack of time and energy to clean can create a vicious cycle. Regular and consistent cleaning by a professional will free up your time for you to be able to relax, spend time with your family, focus on work or pursue your hobbies instead. It also encourages a sense of responsibility and good habits in maintaining your living space.

Not wanting or enjoying to be in your own space is not healthy. Thinking that you're failing at housework is not healthy. Arguing and becoming resentful of your partner or housemates because of it is not healthy. Whether it is the wonderful feeling of coming home from a long day at work to relax in a beautifully clean and fresh smelling home or the extra free time you have to pursue other important tasks or an enjoyable hobby instead of cleaning, the benefits and value of hiring a cleaner will outweigh any monetary cost. Many of my clients tell me that there is no better feeling than walking into their home and seeing everything gleaming, fresh and smelling amazing. Instead of starting on a never ending list of chores, you can kick back, put your feet up and just enjoy your home. Please don't ever think cleaners are for the rich, lazy or indulgent, we are for everyone and there's no shame in getting help.

As a cleaner myself, I sometimes feel the pressure that my house has to be like a 'show home' because that's my job right? I'm the 'professional' that makes homes spotlessly clean and look amazing (which is true of course). But in reality life can be hard, trying to juggle work life, family, running a household, having a social life, looking after yourself mentally and physically, etc. Which is why I am completely non-judgemental and understanding to everyone. Everyone has different circumstances. Let's be real - a little mess and dirt is completely normal! A home cannot stay spotlessly clean every single minute of the day unless you have every single waking hour free to clean (which the majority of people don't). We are all human, have to live and mess is made in the process. Even if you just want the luxury of someone else cleaning your home so you're able to sit back and relax after a long day, then I am here to help. Whenever any of my lovely clients frets about their home being short of perfect, I honestly smile because this is what I do, week in week out. I genuinely, sincerely mean it when I say there's nothing to worry about. Your home should always be your safe space where you are most comfortable - a judgement free zone that's meant to be lived in!
