Hello! I'm Liz, owner and founder of Broadland Housekeeping. Before I started my cleaning business, I spent many years working in retail, specialising in homewares and visual merchandising. I worked for several luxury retailers, working with brands such as The White Company, Ralph Lauren, Molton Brown, Jo Malone, Emma Bridgewater, Orla Kiely and Fendi Casa. I loved my job, colleagues and customers but after the sudden death of my dad, I began to re-evaluate my life and look at my work/life balance. I worked very long, irregular hours in a stressful job and was beginning to feel burnt out as I was coming to terms with my dad's death.
A change is as good as a rest as the saying goes and in the end, I made the decision to leave the world of retail behind and begin working for myself. I don't know many people who dream of setting up a cleaning business or cleaning as a job! It tends to be the sort of thing you fall in to without planning to, and I am no different. But I have always found cleaning to be satisfying and therapeutic and really enjoyed the part time cleaning jobs which I'd worked as a teenager. Along with my customer service skills and flair for home presentation and visual merchandising, starting my own small cleaning business was the perfect fit for me. I thoroughly enjoy my work and the feeling of knowing that I am making a real and positive difference to the lives of my clients, some of whom have been with me from day one. I meet some incredible people through my line of work and it's a privilege to get to know them. Also I love interior design and seeing people's homes and how they reflect the lives and personalities of the people who live there. And most of all I love making all of them look their very best. Cleaning for me is so cathartic. I actually don't even listen to music or anything when I'm working, I just really enjoy the process and the time!
Homes and everything about them are so important. I believe our environments, especially our homes, are in direct interrelation with our emotions. It's our space, our sanctuary, and having one that reflects and works for our lives, can make such an incredible difference to our mental health. When my home is chaotic, I feel chaotic. When my home is serene, I feel serene. It's my pleasure to help people feel that same serenity, so they can spend their spare time concentrating on what really matters. My system of working is one of genuinely enjoying my job and continuously researching and adapting new ways of cleaning, giving my clients the most effective and efficient service. My unwavering passion for homes, animals, kindness, and of course cleaning have helped me build a client base I truly feel connected to. I love running my business. Being in charge of my own working schedule, having the flexibility to choose when I work and being able to spend time doing the things I want, when I want, is a big reason why business ownership works so well for me. I find it easy to be energetic, cheerful and reliable because my work is on my own terms. It just proves that whatever work you are doing, it can be made enjoyable with a positive environment and the opportunity to choose your own working hours and clients.
When I'm not working, you will probably find me reading! I absolutely adore books, literature and poetry. It may not sound very exciting but relaxing with a good book, a mug of Yorkshire Tea and Classic FM playing softly in the background is my idea of a good time! When I don't have my nose in a book, I have quite a few other hobbies and interests including cooking, playing the double bass, kickboxing, yoga, researching local history and long walks in the country with my husband Nick and Dogue de Bordeaux Daisy.
Thanks for stopping by and please get in touch using the contact page if you'd like to chat (even if it isn't business related and you just have a good book to recommend to me!) Take care, Liz x
